Justine Blanchet: ‘I’m working with a different producer and so new singles are taking a bit of a different sound!’

We had the pleasure to chat to the amazing Justine Blanchet about her latest single and plans for the future. Check it out down below!

How would you describe your sound? There are certainly hints of country but it’s not quite what I think most would think of when they think of the genre!

I think my genre fits in the pop/country radio friendly genre. It’s definitely not your traditional western country genre.

What’s it like being in the Nashville scene? I imagine quite different to Montreal!

I come from a small town north of Montreal so I never truly immersed myself in the urban nature of Montreal. I love Nashville because of his diverse communities. It’s not just country music. The people are welcoming and there’s room for everyone!

What’s the reception to ‘What I Got’ been like? Seems like everyone loves the song!

People seem to love it! It’s truly a song close to home for me and I’m glad people appreciate and relate to it.

We had ‘Don’t Ask me to Dance’ last year, are you currently working on another longer project or is the focus still on singles?

I don’t currently have plans for a bigger project but I’m always exploring new ideas. I’m working with a different producer and so new singles are taking a bit of a different sound.

Would you ever consider releasing a full album, or is the industry too geared towards shorter releases these days?

As an independent artist, the industry is more favorable towards shorter releases. We live in a world where the consumption of content is at an all time high. It’s also harder to get a good return of investment with bigger projects.

Have you got a pretty busy year next year in terms of shows?

I have a few things in the works at the moment. I’m working primarily with the Nashville scene right now but always trying to time some shows with my visits to Canada as well.

Anywhere you desperately want to play? Be it somewhere like the Opry to a specific area or even country?

I’d love to play in multiples states. I definitely also want to play in Europe someday. The Opry and the Ryman are obviously on the list.

Do you have a dream tour lineup you’d want to be a part of? Any people you’d want to support or friends you’d want to take on the road with you?

I’ve noticed that the ones who persevere in the industry, grow alongside their peers so, I’d think that in the event of a tour lineup, I’d have a lot of my friends up there with me! I would definitely support them.
