We had the pleasure of chatting to the awesome Dead Chic the other day about their latest album and plans for next year! Check it out below!

How would you guys describe your sound?

Andy: Our music is very open to styles,pulling in influences from a number of South American genres but the foundation is very much of a rock n roll frame work.

Damien : For this album we describe our music as “Cinematic rock in a tequila glass”. This gives a sort of summary of our sound, which is based on very colorful atmospheres, which can evoke landscapes, atmospheres, most of the time quite dark to be honest. And we used a lot of Latin-inspired sounds, such as percussion for example, to give a particular color to our album.

The album has just come out, it seems to have been received really well? Saw Rolling Stone gave it a lot of love! 

Andy : ⁠I know they’ve been really supportive of us especially considering how new the project is.

Damien : Yes, feedbacks are really great since the release, It’s very exciting and encouraging.

Is there a theme or story across the album, or is it more individual tracks?

There’s a lot of personal stories that have been twisted with fantasy and often written from other peoples perspective.

Damien : At first not really, but when we had to make choices before entering the studio we realized that our titles were all linked together in the way of telling the intimate, with this slightly haunted, twilight aspect. Hence this “Serenades and Damnation”

What is the writing process like for you guys?

Andy : There’s a lot of back and fourth as we both live in different countries. The production and realisation of songs is very much in the hands of Damien. Often when he proposes an idea and interpret and find the text. Though time I can come with the bare bones before the flesh gets hung.

Do you have a busy year planned next year? I imagine plenty of touring?

Yes plenty of touring! We’ve had some great interest and have started looking into new territories. We play Switzerland this weekend and follow that with a show in Belgium.

Damien : Yes, 2025 looks good. The album tour begins in February 2025 and the schedule promises to be busy. Lots of dates in France but we are also working on coming to the United Kingdom!

What would you say the state of live music is like these days? It seems very up and down here!

Damien : In terms of the liveliness of the music scene, I think it’s in very good shape. There are a lot of very interesting proposals, and lots of very good bands. It is true that in recent years the economic situation has not made it easier for groups to tour, with the inflation of costs it is more difficult to put together a tour and the covid crisis has brought down people’s habits of going to see concerts. But the public is now coming back in numbers and rock still has a bright future ahead of it.

Do you have a dream tour lineup you’d want to be a part of? Anyone you want to support or take on the road with you? 

Andy : Obviously the classics! McCartney would be top of the list for me. Though collaboration is more interesting. I think all members would love to do something with The La Lom. There new album is fantastic and is played often in the bus.

Damien : Opening for Nick Cave or Anna Calvi would be something, for sure.
