We had the pleasure of sitting down for a quick chat with the wonderful Brooke Eden at The Long Road last month. Check it out below!
It looks like you’ve had a very busy year! I saw the stuff about pride and all that!
Yeah! I got to play national pride for the first time this year in Grande Marshall!
And being a rather open LGBTQ artist, is that any different these days in the country scene? It seems rather accepting these days!
Yeah yeah! Things are definitely progressing in a really good direction, I would say, in country music. I think for such a long time we were just told like ‘you have to be quiet about it’ and at some point you just kinda say I can’t be quiet about it, this is who I am! How am I supposed to be a country artist if I can’t talk about my life? So yeah, I think it’s getting better and better!
Is this the only show you have over here at the minute?
Yeah yeah, just doing this. Well, two shows today, but came all this way just to be here!
Is this your first time playing in the UK or?
Oh no, this is like… playing this is my fifth time!
Was that more touring or the festivals and stuff?
Ummm, C2C, yes! And then I did a writers round with the song ‘Suffragettes’. But I did my first C2C in 2016, so yeah, it’s been some years!
Are there any differences here when compared to back home?
People listen to music so differently here.
Yeah, a few interviews I’ve done say that the crowds kinda focus in more.
Yes, definitely. It’s definitely more of intentional listening. At first I was like, because the crowd is so quiet at times, you’re like ‘oh, do they not like it?’ But no, they’re just listening. But that’s super cool! I love playing for you guys!
And you have a new single coming out soon, right?
I’m working on a new project right now, yeah.
Oh nice! So more of an EP then?
I’m not sure yet. Right now I have two songs for it, and when I get back I go into the studio for two months to write. So it’s kinda what I write. If I write eight killers, it’s like let’s do an album! So we’ll see!
I feel like it’s so hard to determine what to release these days, too.
Yeah, everyone’s attention span is so short! Are you just putting out little bits at a time, or are you doing a full album. How do you get people to listen to the whole thing?!
Have you got a dream tour lineup you’d wanna be a part of?
I feel like I’d love to tour with Brothers Osborne, Kenny Chesney, that would be awesome!
