Tasty Sin: Eddie & The Wolves’ Explosive Second Album!

So, I don’t think it is any secret by this time that I, Joe, am the bassist of Eddie & The Wolves. I have done a handful of semi-comical reviews of our live shows over the last couple of years since I’ve been in the band. I had considered doing something similar when this album was finally released. However, I didn’t think it would do it justice. And, I am far from the only person who’s written for Overtone. So, I threw it to the others to have a slightly more fair review, which you can check out below!

Charlotte:

Heavy rock and blues with a southern twist, Eddie & The Wolves’ album Tasty Sin combines catchy riffs and solos with rich tones, epic dual vocals and overall polished musicality. Now when you think of southern rock you can sometimes step into stereotypical lyric territory with the usual themes and interests – but Eddie & The Wolves are anything but ordinary.

What makes them different to most typical southern rock bands is the almost psychedelic and powerful organs/ keys that simultaneously stands out as a key feature whilst filling the sound nicely to round out each song.

Simply put, Eddie & The Wolves have skilfully used every instrument to their advantage to create waves of highs and lows throughout the album. They show off their abilities in a humble way. There’s no exaggerated ego. Each song is specifically designed in a way that the heart and feel of the track comes first. The pack have produced an excellent album that will set them ready for a new cult following.

Highlight songs are ‘The Devil’s Wrong, but Not to Blame’, ‘Tasty Sin’ and ‘One Night’. 9/10

Max:

Right so despite a connection to this band, I am ashamed to say that this is my first time properly listening to Eddie & The Wolves, but damn did I pick a good time to start and tasty is very very accurate.

Back with their second full album, ETW continue their rocky, slightly blues style and it comes with force. Unlike most of my other ‘reviews’, I thought I would talk about the first song on the album so you can have an idea of what you can expect before covering the rest of the album with my own thoughts on all of it.

  • The Devil’s Wrong, but Not to Blame
For an entry to not only the album but also the band, this is very good. It starts with this almost gothic riff that you’d think would be setting a tone for something darker, but instead they use it almost like thematic setting and then transition out of it in a very smooth manner in to a very bouncy riff and verse with a good bit of love given to the bass. After this it slides nicely into a chorus that had it all. Long held notes, some layered vocals before going into an excellent mini solo and riff – god damm is it a lot of fun – not to mention the killer drums that are keeping everyone tapping whilst listening along. Like I said this is a great opener to both the album and the band as it showcases a whole catalogue of skill but and has a monumental amount of energy throughout.
  • Whole album thoughts:
I want to make this clear, whilst I have somewhat of a connection to this band, I am a dick. If I didn’t like this I would say as much but this album is just straight up good. There is energy and talent and, most importantly, artistic thought through out the entire album. I found it hard to pick a point where I though “yeah this is crap”. Now, I have access to the album for a hot minute now so I have had more than enough time to make up my thought on every song but it remains fairly simple. Go to the streaming service of your choice, volume on 100% and grove around whilst listening to this brilliant album. If I had any real criticism, its that one, I always want more bass (this does have some fun bass though don’t worry), and two, can I have a 20 song album next time, two songs just kept feeling way too short.

In finishing, the album is great, check out Eddie & The Wolves if you haven’t already, maybe even go see them live. Oh and listen to Blood Runs Cold, that song is just a vibe.

9.5/10 (Give me 2 more songs and you can have the other 0.5)

So, safe to say the others liked it! In all seriousness from me, I’m damn proud of this album, and every single other person who worked on it. Everyone seems to be enjoying it, from reviewers to radio hosts to the public, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you all. And I’d of course highly recommend it if anyone else hasn’t check it out yet!

I guess the overall score is 9.25/10!
